Start of the Calderón era

In the 2006/07 season, the new Madrid president, Ramón Calderón, hired Fabio Capello as coach, who returned to the club ten years later. As in the 1996/97 season, his team won the league title, completing a great comeback. Real Madrid arrived at the Clásico at Camp Nou on matchday 28, five points behind Barça and just after their elimination in the round of 16 of the Champions League against FC Bayern.

The team completed a great match, which ended 3-3, from which Madrid came out of the game much stronger. In the last ten matchdays remaining, the team scored 25 of the 30 points at stake, including two epic last-minute comebacks against Español and Recreativo, which were enough to win the 30th league title in the club's history and the third for Iker Casillas.

In the 2007/08 season and with Bernd Schuster as coach, Madrid retained the league title, 18 points ahead of Barcelona, whom they welcomed as champions at the Bernabéu with a 4-1 victory and the traditional 'pasillo' of the azulgranas players in honor of the champion.
